Some of our competitors

These are some of the hotels we find comparable in terms of vision, facilities, pricing or otherwise;  have given inspiration & ideas or are in some other way interesting to look at.  Tripadvisor comments – especially the bad ones – give us many suggestions on where things can go wrong.

Umi Hotel
The Umi hotel offers 28 elegantly designed rooms with nature and comfort as the guiding light. We offer both double and twin rooms with private bathrooms that have either a mountain or an ocean views.
Comparable in size with us. Located at south coast, 2 hrs. from Reykjavik

Highland base adventure hotel
In the mountains at 700m altitude, 3.5 hrs. driving form Reykjavik in summer (in winter 3-6 hrs. with professional 4WD).  Different forms of accommodation incl. bring your own sleeping bag huts,  queen bunk beds in family rooms and suites.

Husafell hotel
48 spacious rooms,  also nearby holiday home park.  Hot springs basic and video quality on landing page horrible quality.  Clearly also going for MICE business.  1:40 hours driving from Reykjavik.

Skálakot Manor Hotel
An upscale family-run farm and small boutique hotels  with spacious rooms. Small-scale with fourteen boutique rooms divided into a master suite, a mini suite, six grand double rooms, four standard double rooms and two standard single rooms. Located next to a farm where Icelandic horses are bred at the south coast of Iceland, just over 2 hours driving from Reykjavik.

Very rustic interior with bathroom faucets that require old fashioned methods to adjust temperature.  Rates from Euro 350-600,- a night.

Torfhus retreat
Nice upscale place with cabins built in traditional Icelandic style.  Fancy restaurant and smaller cabins are over (in Novemeber) Euro 750-1.200,– a night. With such rates why putting them so close together and require 3 cabins to share one small hot pool that is designed in such a way that you don’t have view to the outside?  And small windows in closely-spaced cabins fit Icelandic style but prevent you from truly enjoying scenary from behind window.  Beats us.  But website visuals are all top class.

Hotel Ranga
Has been around for many years.  90 minute drive from Reykjavik.  52-Room hotel has apparently 4-stars but to me it looks not quite like that and the rates… Almost Euro 500,– for a 26 m2 deluxe room and Euro 815,– for a junior suite of 42 m2. Max. 3 persons,  non-refundable reate.  Our cabins  – that turn – will be 55 m2 and accommodate 4 guests.   Seems a little overpriced.

Panorama glass lodge
On of the first people who seemed to understand that it’s about the landscape and the cabins itself are the destination.  Founded by German/Swiss couple, now have about 7 cabins on 2 or 3 different locations.  Booked solidly year-round despite > Euro 940,- a night for 2.   Initial locations had cabins far apart. At new west, Borgarnes location they are much closer to each other.  Great visuals on website. They understand the value of PR, that is clear.

Ion Adventure Hotel
Upscale 45-room hotel within hour from Reykjavik small hot pool.  Takes good advantage of views, restaurant in particular.  Euro 470,– a night for a 20m2 deluxe room with king bed that sleeps two.   Want a 3-person room?  You’ll need the thermal junior suite.  It’s a little bigger at 37m2 but Euro 760 a night. Non-refundable November rate.

Former barn turned into nice 4-star boutique hotel also catering to MICE market.  Not sure where 360 name comes from though😉.   70 minutes driving from Reykjavik.  Family owned.  Currently closed due to expansion and renovation.

Great concept putting 5 ‘glass bowls’ in the landscape.   “Igloo’s” have wooden walls between them but to anybody anybody wandering around you are in full view.    Breakfast and showers in pretty basic common area that doesn’t quite match price of over € 315 for a double.  Just over an hour from Reykjavik, on south coast.  But great visuals.

Hotel Vík í Mýrdal
78-room family-owned hotel on south coast, partly with sea view. Has family rooms too.  Just over 2.5 hrs. driving from Reykjavik.
