Without doubt, the geothermal spa will be the anchor of our development, creating a year-round destination.
Below you find some initial artist impressions of our plans that also show the location of hotel and wellness hub. All are situated between existing vegetation in areas where there is no forest.
Following the existing topography, a total of 7 pools on different levels will give visitors many choices, spectacular views of fjord and/or the Botnsdalur valley and avoid the sense of ‘it’s too busy here’.

Truly unique to our geothermal spa is a very energy efficient way of heating the water. All existing hotsprings facilities in Iceland mix cold and hot geothermal water to the right temperature and continously add this water to the pools to refresh and keep the waterquality in check, dumping the overflow (of 35 C.) into the wild. This is an enormous waste of energy that doesn’t fit our vision on sustainable operating practices.
At Hugarro we will use a closed-loop system with a special filtration system to keep the water (bacteriological) quality within the required parameters, without using any chemicals (as is mandated by Icelandic regulation on natural pools). This will not only result on huge energy savings (approx. 40%) but also unequalled clarity of the water. And equally important, it will result in immense water use savings (over 90% – in our case that’s about 250.000 liters of water a daily) as we almost only have to resupply the water lost to evaporation.
